Create A Winning Instagram Account Bio
By Mike Hauben
Your Instagram account bio is important. After all, it’s the first thing people will see after clicking on your photos and profile. There are 5 things your profile needs to be as effective as possible.
Additionally, your Instagram profile should also be in “list format”. The reason for this is because people will view your profile from their phone, and reading key points in a list is easy to read quickly (and absorb) than a long string of neverending text.
Chewy does an amazing job of this:
You’ll see that Chewy features 5 key things in their profile, which is what I recommend as well (Chewy doesn’t list an address, though, because they don’t have a single retail location).
1. Slogan or brief mission statement
The first thing you should have is a sentence or two about your company. Pretty self explanatory – but make sure to keep it pretty short.
2. Branded Hashtag
You likely have a hashtag or two that you like to use when tagging your photos. If you don’t, you should create something clever and begin using that hashtag in your posts!
Make sure to include your branded hashtag in your profile so your fans know how to include you in their posts!
I recommend adding your address next.
You may decide it’s smart to direct visitors to a promotion you’re running, and can decide to put a link to that campaign’s landing page instead of your homepage. If this is the case, you’ll want to create a compelling call to action to entice visitors to click that link.
For example, you may create a link to a page on your website promoting an engagement ring sale. A good call to action would be “Click below for this month’s 20% engagement ring sale” followed by the link to that page.
5. Bio link
Whether you direct visitors to a landing page or your homepage, you’ll want to do one. Depending on your goal, you may want to check out a program called LinkTree – it’s free to try! Instagram only allows you to have one link in your profile. With LinkTree, the link in your Instagram profile will open up a menu that will offer the viewer a few options of your choice. Plus, the links are trackable. Check out LinkTree here: https://linktr.ee/
